NORTH RIDGEVILLE – A 79-year-old woman and 62-year-old man were injured in a head-on crash on state Route 83 Tuesday morning.

The woman driving the Chevy Oldsmobile Alero was traveling northbound over the railroad overpass on Route 83 at about 10:30 a.m. when she crossed left of center, colliding with a GMC Sierra truck that was traveling southbound, according to North Ridgeville Police Capt. Marti Garrow.

The female driver and the male driver of the truck were trapped in their vehicles and had to be extricated. The female was flown by Life Flight helicopter to MetroHealth Medical Center, and the male was taken by ambulance to St. John Medical Center, Garrow said.

Also in the truck were a female passenger and two children in the backseat, none of whom was injured. There were no other occupants of the car.

Route 83 between Bainbridge and Sugar Ridge roads was shut down into the early afternoon as officials worked the scene, according to the North Ridgeville Police Department’s Facebook page.

The crash remains under investigation.
