William R. “Bill” Hyer, Sr., 77, of LaGrange, passed away Saturday, August 31, 2013 in the Southwest General Hospice Center, after a short illness. He was born January 13, 1936 in Big Otter, West Virginia and had lived many years in LaGrange.
Mr. Hyer was a Master Mechanic, a trade that he applied for 14 years as a journyman machine repairman at Ford Motor Company in Brook Park, at Fisher Body in Elyria for 11 years and the owner of Bill’s Citgo in LaGrange for 23 years. Bill enjoyed building performance engines, riding motorcycles and service as the family “Political Pundit”. Most of all, Bill loved his family, believed in God and treating people the way he wanted to be treated. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was a member of LaGrange Masonic Lodge #399 and was a 32nd Degree Mason with the Scottish Rite, Valley of Cleveland.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Katherine; daughters, Marjorie Sue McClure of Penfield, Nancy (Don) Duelley of Medina, Linda Bialosky of LaGrange; sons, William Hyer, Jr. of Oberlin and David (Jackie) Hyer of Penfield; survivors also include 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Dora Hyer; brothers, James, Charles and Robert; and by his sister, Elinor Young.
Friends may call in the Blackburn-Duke Funeral Home, 1021 Main Street, Grafton, Wednesday, September 4, 2013 from 6 to 8 P.M., where funeral services will be held Thursday, September 5, 2013 at 1 P.M., with Rev. Tim Holt officiating. Burial will be in River Road Cemetery, LaGrange Twp.
