WESTLAKE – After a police search and call to the public for assistance, a Missouri man and wanted felon was arrested on Wednesday in Westlake, according to police.
Brian James Adkinson, 23, of Columbia, Mo., was arrested at 1:25 p.m. Wednesday at the Huntington Woods nursing home at the intersection of Cahoon Road and Westchester Parkway in Westlake, Police Capt. Guy Turner said.
A citizen reported seeing Adkinson riding a bicycle into the woods around Cahoon Road and Bryandale Drive at about 1:03 p.m. Wednesday. About 20 police officers from Avon, Bay Village, Fairview Park, North Olmsted and Rocky River set up a perimeter around the area, Turner said.
At about 1:25 p.m., an employee at the nursing home reported seeing Adkinson in the building.
After a brief struggle, Westlake police arrested Adkinson. Adkinson was unarmed and police are unsure where he got a bicycle, Turner said.
Adkinson escaped from the Caldwell County Detention Center in Kingston, Mo., on Aug. 10, where he was facing charges of kidnapping, domestic violence and violating a temporary protection order. Adkinson is also wanted in Boone County, Mo., for rape and burglary charges.
Turner said that police don’t know why Adkinson escaped to Lorain County and that he is being uncooperative during questioning.
