A man wanted in Missouri who was arrested in Westlake appeared Thursday in Rocky River Municipal Court.

Brian James Adkinson, 23, of Colombia, Mo., was charged with two counts of receiving stolen property, one count of felony fleeing, one count of burglary and one count of resisting arrest.

Adkinson escaped from the Caldwell County Detention Center in Kingston, Mo., on Aug. 10, where he was facing charges of kidnapping, domestic violence and violating a temporary protection order. Adkinson is also wanted in Boone County, Mo., for rape and burglary charges.

Authorities learned Adkinson was in the area after Westlake police tried to question a man sleeping in a pickup truck at the Hampton Road on Detroit Tuesday. The driver fled, and following a brief pursuit, the man abandoned the vehicle and ran on foot. Officers later learned the vehicle was stolen from Weirton, W.Va.

Adkinson was arrested Wednesday at Huntington Woods nursing home in Westlake after a brief struggle with officers. Adkinson had been spotted riding a bicycle into the woods, which Police Capt. Guy Turner said Adkinson took from a resident’s garage, before being spotted in the nursing home.

Magistrate Kelly Larrick Serra set bond at $500,000 cash or surety. Adkinson remains in Westlake City Jail, and will likely be transferred to Cuyahoga County jail in the immediate future.

Extradition decisions will be made at the county or state level.
