Edward F. Skolnicki, 80, of Wakeman, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Mercy Allen Hospital in Oberlin, surrounded by his family. Edward was born August 28, 1933 in Lorain and was raised there. He attended Lorain High School, graduating with the class of 1952A. He moved to Wakeman 36 years ago.
Edward served in the U.S. Army. He held Management positions at TRW in Lorain and General Plug in Grafton. He also served as General Manager of Matthews Corporation in Florida and Canada.
A devout Catholic, Edward attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oberlin. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially joking around with his grandchildren. Edward was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus 4th. Degree, and the Elyria United Polish Club.
Edward is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Barbara (Syrowski); daughters, Anna Kandra (David), Debra Schoen (Timothy deceased); sons, David and Drew (Dawn); he is also survived by his grandchildren, Ashley Smith, Lauren and Emily Kandra, Brianna, Brittany, Lindsay, Alexia and Alyssa Schoen, David, Jessica and Maria Skolnicki, Julia, Nicholas, Matthew and Racheal Skolnicki; great granddaughter, AnnaMari Smith; brothers, Todd of Amherst and Joseph of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Claire Skolnicki; sister, Marlene Ferraro; and many aunts and uncles.
Family will receive friends Tuesday, September 10, 2013 from 3 to 8 P.M. at the Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Avenue, Amherst. Closing prayers will be Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at 9:15 A.M. in the funeral home, followed by a 10 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Elyria, with Reverend Father Donald Dunson, Pastor officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
