Russell worked as a crane operator for the steel mills and several foundries. He served his country proudly in U.S. Marine Corps. Russell was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and loved fishing, camping and working on cars. Russell also enjoyed American Civil War History and spending time watching his kids play sports.
Survivors include his loving wife of 23 and a half years, Debra Lynn (nee Thompson) Herbert of Amherst; sons, Adam Herbert of Amherst, Jacob (Amanda) Herbert, also of Lorain; daughters, Megan Herbert of Amherst and Stephanie Herbert of Elyria; one grandson; brother, Charles Dwayne (Debborah) Herbert of Lorain; sisters, Debra (Ed) Fox of Louisville, Kentucky, Tammy Thacker of Elyria, Tracey (Scott) Monos of Elyria and Kim Herbert and Sandy Herbert, both of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Dorothy Herbert; brother, Michael Ray Herbert; sister, Cindy Lou Marcie and infant siblings, Spring and Donald.
Friends may call Monday, September 9, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. at Wyers Funeral Chapel, 2900 North Ridge Road, Sheffield Township. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at 11 A.M. Reverend Jay Roller, Pastor of Grace Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon, with Military Honors.
