Jacob Aley, 20, was charged with animal cruelty at his home at 630 S. Abbe Road after his girlfriend said he killed their pet ferret in their apartment.
Melissa Nolan, 19, told police that she and Aley had been dating for four months when she decided to move out of the apartment they shared. When Nolan got ready to leave on Sunday, she told police Aley got angry and threatened to kill the ferret.
Nolan said that she was packing items in her car about 6:30 p.m. when Aley came outside the apartment, holding the dead ferret, according to a police report.
“He came up to the car with the dead ferret and blood all over him,” Nolan said.
Aley, she told police, then threw the animal at Nolan as she was sitting in her car, and she watched it die.
“We had the ferret for a few months. … I wanted to take it with me,” Nolan said. “He said that if he can’t be happy, he’s not going to give me anything to be happy about.”
Police found blood on some of the walls and floor of the apartment, and Aley admitted to killing the animal, saying he did so to hurt Nolan, police said.
