Steven Hamilton, 22, told police he was walking near Washington Avenue and West 8th Street at 12:36 a.m. Saturday when he heard someone call out “Hey, Steve!”
Immediately after, Hamilton told police, he heard two or three gunshots and was hit in the leg by a bullet.
Despite his injured leg, Hamilton got across the street to a house on the 900 block of West 8th Street, where he fell down on the front steps.
Hamilton told police he threw a knife he kept on his belt at the house, catching the attention of a man inside who, upon seeing Hamilton, immediately called police.When police arrived, Hamilton was lying in a pool of blood in front of the house. Police said he was coherent and able to explain what happened.
Hamilton told police that he never saw the shooter, nor did he know where the shots or voice originated.
Hamilton was taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center and was released within two days.
