Crushers win big over Traverse City, force final game

TRAVERSE CITY, MICH. — Needing a win to keep their season alive, the Lake Erie Crushers had to sweat — for awhile.

But they ended up swatting the Traverse City Beach Bums, 13-3, Wednesday in the Frontier League Division Series to force a deciding Game 5 tonight at All Pro Freight Stadium.

Lake Erie put the game away with 12 runs over the final three innings.

Trailing 3-1, the Crushers erupted for five runs — all with two outs — in the seventh. Daniel Bowman singled in one and Andrew Davis delivered four with a grand slam over the left-field wall.

Craig Hertler and Bowman each had two-run homers in the eighth to make it 10-3. Mickey Jannis got the win, allowing three runs on six hits through six innings. He struck out seven.

Chris Squires took the loss for the Beach Bums.
