Lola Frances New (nee Rexroat), 89 years of age, and a resident of Elyria, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, September 16, 2013, at her home, following a lengthy illness. She was born June 24, 1924 in Somerset, Kentucky.
Frances came to Amherst Township in 1946, eventually moving to Elyria, where she made her home for most of her life.
Frances’s primary focus in life was that of being a homemaker. Frances was a member of North Lake Missionary Baptist Church in South Amherst. She loved to be active at church and was a member of the choir for many years. Frances was a member of the Westridge Ladies Craft Club and enjoyed the crafts and fellowship at their weekly meetings. Frances loved making quilts and the fellowship that it provided with other women. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her son, Robert A. New of Elyria; her grandchildren, Deborah O’Brien, Stevie New, Beverly New, Jason New; as well as four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Oren New on February 28, 1992; her son, Stephen D. New in 2009; daughter, Alice M. Denney in 2012; granddaughter, Deanna Borer in 2010; brothers, Glassburn, Billy and James; sister, Mae Hubbert; and her parents, James M. and Bessie Rexroat (nee Holt).
Friends may call Wednesday, September 18, 2013, from 4 to 8 P.M., at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 19, 2013, 11 A.M., at North Lake Missionary Baptist Church, 323 North Lake Street, South Amherst. The Reverend Jayson Samons will officiate. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.
