AVON — Elaine Freeman, the wife of North Ridgeville Police Chief Mike Freeman, has been arrested again for allegedly shoplifting from a store in Avon.

The latest arrest came Monday at Kohl’s, Avon Police Chief Richard Bosley said. A report of the incident was not yet completed, but Bosley said Elaine Freeman was charged with theft and taken to the Avon Police Department.

Elaine Freeman was last arrested Nov. 19 when she was caught shoplifting health and beauty products at the Target in Avon. She had her toddler son with her at the time and both were taken to the Avon Police Department.

In the November incident, Mike Freeman drove to the Avon Police Department to pick up his wife and angrily complained about his wife being booked on the theft charge, Bosley said at the time. Mike Freeman has said he wasn’t upset that his wife was arrested, but with how she was treated by Avon police, who kept his wife and child together in a holding area.

Bosley said although Mike Freeman came to the station Monday, there were no problems this time.

Elaine Freeman had her child with her when she was arrested Monday, Bosley said, but the child was placed in an area with a person Elaine Freeman knew who was already on her way to pick her up when the arrest happened.

Elaine Freeman pleaded no contest in March to theft for the November incident. Avon Lake Municipal Court records show she was fined $250, ordered to complete an Economic Crime Program and given a 30-day suspended jail sentence. She was to be monitored for the next two years.

Mike Freeman was given a letter of reprimand and ordered to undergo anger management counseling after North Ridgeville Mayor Dave Gillock determined that the chief’s reaction to his wife’s arrest in November was conduct unbecoming of a police officer.

      I DO NOT THINK SO

  • Bobby Amabo

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. THE POLICE DEPT AND THE CHIEF AND GOOD NAME OF RIDGEVILLE ARE LOOKING PRETTY STUPID. THIS IDIOT WIFE NEEDS TO BE PUT IN JAIL FOR 30 DAYS AND SEE A SHRINK,OR IS THE CHIEF THAT STUPID? IF HE CAN NOT TELL WHEN HIS OWN DEPT HAS PROBLEMS SO IF HIS OFFICERS ARE BEATING ON PEOPLE HE WOULD THINK ITS OK AND NEVER TRY TO FIND A SOLUTION IF HE CAN NOT EVEN SEE THIS IN HIS OWN WIFE

Somehow this will fall on us taxpayers. We probably haven’t funded any free counseling for troubled cop wives, so there will be another issue on the ballot for the city to take MORE money from us. Sick of the money grabs by NR Government and Schools. Enough already. Put her in jail for 30 days like she deserves.

  • Lord Anoobis

Ha! Ha! Ha! I just love the fact that Freeman’s old lady was busted again. I’m for anything that embarrasses that a$$hole. You deserve it, Mike.

  • Spec440

I agree that this chick needs to go to jail but how is this the city’s fault or the cops that work there? She has nothing to do with the city, just an ordinary petty thief that happens to be married to someone that works for the city.

  • stop ur whining

if that was my wife….she’d “accidentally” fall down the stairs. how embarrassing for Mike. two words buddy…Divorce & Custody

  • Sarah Boesger

If this was a black mother caught for a second time shoplifting Pampers for her baby, I wonder if anyone would suggest counseling or therapy for her?

    • stop ur whining

wouldnt be a tuesday without some one playing the race card.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA loser

      Nice…

  • Bruce Tennant

I hope she gets help, clearly she has issues

I was very clear with my disappointment in how Chief Freeman handled the “Woodpile Five” kitten killings earlier this year, but I’m even more disappointed in most of the comments to this article. I don’t see how making fun of his wife for this will do anyone any good. C’mon people!

  • Don Grantzki

Given the fact that she resembles Leonard’s mother of Big Bang fame, she may be far too intelligent for normal “twelve step” programs.

  • LAB1660

How embarrassing. But one poster is right–if this were a black woman, the problem would be solved by jailing her; but since this is not only a white woman, but a police chief’s wife, all of a sudden we perceive her as needing help for her problems??!! What a chilling contrast. This woman is not a petty thief, but may have kleptomania; or she may hope for a diagnosis of kleptomania so the insurance will cover her treatments, but she may really be a bored suburban housewife with no real agenda in life. Each time she does this with her child in tow, she is endangering her child. How about that call to child social services? Hey, Chief, you aren’t making very good decisions–you stood behind a kitten killer and now you stand behind a spouse with a theft problem. Maybe your child needs to be placed in foster care because neither you nor your wife are capable of teaching your child the proper things in life–thou shalt not kill and thou shall not steal.

    • stop ur whining

you really need to let the cat thing go. They guy was doing his job and I still have friends in ridgeville that have cats that crap in their lawn. Feral cats are a menace that need to be exterminated. If you want to be mad at someone in this case…Blame all the TERRIBLE pet owners that let their cats go. That of course is where the problem begins. Say what you want about his wife, wont touch that with a ten foot pole. But the cat thing again. Let it go.

    • Sarah Boesger

I agree that is is super disturbing that her child has been with her on both occasions. And for those who want to jump on me for playing the race card, I would ask you to please review the evidence. Disadvantaged people of color are not treated the same way as priviledged white people. The law is bent frequently in the favor of people like Ms. Freeman, who has money and connections. It is rarely if ever bent in the favor of people of color or poor people. Again, I ask you, if Ms. Freeman was a black single mom with her toddler with her in Kohl’s and she got caught stealing school clothes for her child, do you think the outcome would have been the same?

      • Larry Crnobrnja

Google “Aaron Alexis”. Your race card play is a red herring.

      • Bill

Simple misdemeanor. You could be black, green, purple and you’re not going to be jailed. Get over it and quit playing the race card.

Could there be a mental health issue?

this only hit the headlines cause of it dealing with an public official in north ridgeville&plus, this being the wife’s second time, this was even added for a story but they both are ordinary people just like we all are&we all put our pants on one leg at a time, they are no different.good people does bad things.any human that commits any crime would have to have mental problems just for the simple fact we all should learn from right&wrong by the age of 10 years old, give or take&if not…you have something going on in your brain to commit a crime.she needs counseling&right along the same consequences that any thief receives from the law.

  • GreatRedeemer

I think the Chief has got some domestic problems at home. The Mrs. needs a chaperone when she hits the stores.

    • told you so

She had her child again PUT HER IN JAIL,take that child away from her
