Elyria blotter: Thief takes tires, rims, leaves vehicles on blocks

Monday, Sept. 16

  • 8 a.m. – Sunnyside Chevrolet, 1100 E. Broad St., a man at the car lot said someone stole the tires and rims from three vehicles between Saturday and Monday. Police said the vehicles were left on blocks.
  • 9:26 a.m. – 300 block of 17th Street, a woman said she returned home and found three windows in the back of her home broken.
  • 2:15 p.m. – 300 block of Fourth Street, a resident said she walked around the side of her house to her basement and found the basement door broken open. She said she saw a male in the doorway in his late teens wearing a camouflage backpack. The woman said she yelled for someone in her home to call police and the man pushed her to the ground and ran away.

Tuesday, Sept. 17

  • 7:29 a.m. – Police Department, 18 West Ave., a woman, who police said had redness on her left cheekbone, said her boyfriend pushed her against a wall in their apartment complex and choked and punched her. Police said the man, whose name was removed from a police report on the incident, had been charged with assault, but hadn’t been arrested as of Tuesday afternoon.
