Arthur Merle Rush, 88, of North Ridgeville, passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Avon, following a brief illness. He was born in State Line, Pennsylvania on July 28, 1925. Mr. Rush had been a resident of North Ridgeville for over 50 years.
He received his high school diploma from North Ridgeville High School in 2006. Mr. Rush was a veteran and served in the U.S. Army from March 13, 1944 to December 13, 1945. He was a POW and was held in a prisoner of war camp from December 18, 1944 until April 28, 1945. He received a Purple Heart and several other decorations and citations for his service. He was retired from the General Motors plant in Parma, where he was a machinist for 35 years. Mr. Rush was a life member of VFW Post #9871 in North Ridgeville. He enjoyed doing yard work and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Catherine (nee LeMasters); one sister, Carol R. Imler of Tucson, Arizona; one brother, Curtis W. Rush (Theresa) of Crowville, Louisiana; and, chosen by heart, a granddaughter and caregiver, Catherine M. Muncey (nee Boyd) (Dana) of North Ridgeville; and great great granddaughter, Hope M. Scarbro.
Service will be Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 12 Noon at Resthaven Memory Gardens, 3700 Center Rd. (Route 83), in Avon. Members from the Honor Guard of VFW Post #9871 in North Ridgeville will officiate and conduct full military honors.
