NORTH RIDGEVILLE — A fire at a residential automotive workshop on Friday night had firefighters on the scene for nearly three hours, as they worked to battle an aggressive blaze.
The North Ridgeville Fire Department was sent to 36844 Chestnut Ridge Road at 9:47 p.m. Friday after witnesses saw flames shooting from the automotive workshop behind the residence. The home is owned by Jim Molchan, according to a news release from the North Ridgeville Fire Department.
The fire was difficult to extinguish because of the presence of large amounts of flammable liquids and gas cylinders in the garage. The garage also was filled with multiple vehicles, according to the news release.
It took 25 firefighters about two hours and 30 minutes to extinguish all of the hot spots in the structure. The fire department estimated the damage was approximately $100,000 to the structure and $100,000 to the contents.
The occupants of the home were safe and out of the building when rescue crews arrived, and there were no reported injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
In addition to the North Ridgeville Fire Department, the Elyria, Olmsted Township, Olmsted Falls and the North Olmsted fire departments also responded.
