ELYRIA— Drew Manns, who pleaded guilty Monday to starting a 2009 fire that caused more than $8.4 million in damage to Lorain County Community College, has been indicted for theft.

The new charge stems from Manns withdrawing $7,750 from a bank account controlled by his mother,Wanda Campolo, in July.

Campolo contacted police and prosecutors to report Manns had withdrawn the money and may have fled the area. He was arrested July 28 at the SunsetMotel in New Russia Township after he was reported drinking in an Oberlin bar the night before and showing patrons money.

Manns argued during a bond revocation hearing that he was legally allowed to withdraw the money and had no intention  of fleeing Lorain County. Campolo has since told authorities she doesn’t want to pursue charges against her son.

Monday’s plea could lead to Manns receiving up to eight years in prison for the 2009 college fire, which started in service tunnels running underneath the school.
