AVON LAKE — Elaine Freeman, the wife of North Ridgeville Police Chief Mike Freeman, pleaded not guilty to a theft charge stemming from her latest shoplifting arrest, according to Avon Lake Municipal Court records.

Elaine Freeman was arrested Monday at Kohl’s and booked at the Avon Police Department before being release. She  previously was arrested in November when she was caught shoplifting health and beauty products from Target in Avon.

She pleaded no contest in that case and was fined $250 and given a 30-day suspended jail sentence during a March court appearance.

Mike Freeman was reprimanded and ordered to undergo anger management counseling for an outburst at the Avon  Police Station following his wife’s first arrest. Avon Police Chief Richard Bosley has said that there were no problems when Mike Freeman came to the police station earlier this week.
