John Mathew Charlton, Jr., 79, of Elyria, passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2013, following a long illness. He was born May 3, 1934 in Brownton, West Virginia. Elyria has been his home for over 50 years.
John retired from Ford Motor Company in Brook Park, after over 30 years of service. He was a member of the Church on the North Coast in Lorain. He served in the United States Navy. He enjoyed fishing, yard work, woodworking, and just working with his hands.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dolly Dimple Charlton (nee Campbell); sons, Mark (Elizabeth) Charlton of Sheffield Village, Terry (Melody) Charlton of Scottsdale, Arizona; daughters, Carol (Todd) Lauffer of North Ridgeville and Cheryl (Bryon) Striker of Sheffield Village; brothers, Ronald (Rita) Charlton of Columbus, Louis Charlton of Grafton, Donald Ray Gene (Patricia) Charlton of Amherst; sister, Brenda Charlton, Patty Charlton and Linda Charlton-Slawson (George), all of Elyria; and eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John, Sr. and Anna Charlton (nee Rusnak); and by a brother, Robert Charlton.
Friends may call Sunday, September 22, 2013 at the Reichlin Roberts Funeral Home, 327 Cleveland St., Elyria, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 23, 2013 at 11 A.M. in the funeral home. Reverend Christopher Robinson of Lorain, will officiate. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria, where VFW Post #1079 will provide full military services.
