Elyria salon manager chases away robber

ELYRIA — A plucky hair stylist managed to chase off an armed man intent on stealing money from the beauty parlor she worked at during an attempted weekend robbery.

The incident occurred about 5 p.m. Saturday at Shear Sensations II, 612 Prospect St., where a 63-year-old female stylist was cutting a customer’s hair “when she got the feeling someone was standing behind her,” according to Elyria police Capt. Chris Costantino.

The stylist turned around to confront a man wearing a green hooded sweatshirt and jeans.

“He had the hood up over his head and a T-shirt was up over his nose,” Costantino said.

When the woman demanded to know what the man wanted, he told her he wanted “all the money you have,” Costantino said.

The woman told him she had none, after which he again demanded money and began looking in cabinets.

Finding no cash, the would-be robber then reached for a tin of cookies, after which the upset beautician told him to get out.

“It was then she saw the knife in his right hand and she chased him out the door,” Costantino said.

Once outside, the woman yelled at three men that the male had just attempted a robbery.

The trio chased the man on foot for some distance but were unable to find him, Costantino said.

Neither the stylist nor her female customer were injured.

The suspect was described as 5-foot, 10-inches tall and weighing 165 pounds.
