Police investigating reports of shots fired at Red Roof Inn

ELYRIA — Police are investigating a late morning incident at a motel Sunday where several gunshots reportedly were fired.

No one was struck or injured during the incident that occurred about 11 a.m. in the parking lot of the Red Roof Inn at 621 Midway Blvd., according to Elyria police Capt. Chris Costantino.

Costantino was working on the shooting along with other police detectives Sunday night who were trying to identify and locate suspects.

“It basically involved people who were shooting at each other in the parking lot of the motel,” Costantino said.

The number of people involved was not immediately clear.

After firing an undisclosed number of gunshots, suspects hurriedly left the area in vehicles.

No one in the immediate area was struck by bullets,

The motel, which has changed hands a number of times over the years, is off state Route 57 and faces the Lowe’s Home Improvement Center.
