Man runs after approaching car with handgun

ELYRIA — A man who allegedly knocked on the window of a stopped car while holding a handgun ran from the scene police before police arrived.

The incident happened at 12:22 a.m. Sunday when a 22 year-old Elyria woman said she was stopped in her car at the intersection of state Route 57 and Furnace Street waiting for the light to change.

As she waited, a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans with designs on the back pockets approached her car and banged on the passenger’s side window, she told police.

She told police he also was holding a black pistol, and when she realized that she hit the gas — sounding her horn as she drove to Midway Mall, where she pulled off to call police.

She told police the man ran south down Furnace Street after she drove away.

why did she have to drive all the way to the mall just to call the cops? makes no could call as you’re driving like a bat out of hell& or just drive far enough down the road&call the police..just another wild goose chase for the cops from a young female, covering her a** with somebody..just an opinion.

I can name at least forty local citizens who would be poor choices for this hoodrat to approach in that manner.

My advice to anyone driving late at night? Do a quick brake, look in all directions for oncoming vehicles, if there are none, GO! You are an absolute sitting duck waiting at a traffic light when the streets are totally deserted.

Or you lay your gun on your lap and anyone that comes up to your window, you aim your gun at them. If they show a gun, then fire at will.
