John F. McKenna, 81, of Elyria, passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at his home, following a long illness. He was born August 24, 1932 in Manhattan, New York. He was an Elyria resident since 1966.
John was an English professor at Lorain County Community College for 30 years, retiring in 1991. He was a veteran of the United States Army and enjoyed photography, bicycling and watching old movies.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Sylvia (nee Knouse); daughters, Mary Morog of Birmingham, Kathleen Bolam of Rochester, New York, and Sean Cunningham of Hanover, Maryland; son, John McKenna of Medina; grandchildren, Dustin, Kyle, Connor, Aiden and Lily; sister, Irene Ennis of Sarasota, Florida; and brother, William McKenna of Sarasota, Florida.
All services will be private. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd., Elyria.
