Police cruiser is struck in Sheffield Lake; driver is sought

SHEFFIELD LAKE — A driver who police said struck a police cruiser around 9:25 p.m. Tuesday at 4037 Lake Road, remained at large early this morning.

Officer David Simone was completing a traffic stop when the crash occurred, according to a police dispatcher. A westbound car struck the cruiser just south of Lake Breeze Road.

David J. Scott, 26, of Lorain, had just been arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license, when the crash occurred. Scott was hospitalized at Mercy Regional Medical Center with minor injuries after the crash.

Simone was uninjured.

Descriptions of the driver and car were unavailable Tuesday night. The cruiser was towed from the scene.
