Avon business cited for underage alcohol sale

AVON – One business was cited during an undercover operation to check for illegal alcohol sales.

Police used an 18-year-old confidential informant to make several alcohol purchases at seven retail establishments and one on-premise establishment. One business, Circle K on Chester Road, sold alcohol to the informant, according to a news release from the Avon Police Department.

The clerk who sold the alcohol, Jonathan Cline, 25, of Avon Lake, was cited for underage sales. He will have to appear at Avon Mayor’s Court for a hearing on the charge.

The undercover operation was completed on Friday in cooperation with the Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services Board of Lorain County and the STOP Task Force on Underage Drinking.

Avon police Lt. Keith Hagg wrote in the news release that it is important for clerks to check for identification before the sale of alcohol for compliance with local and state regulations.

“We would like to congratulate the majority of our establishments that were in compliance and thank the ADAS and STOP Task Force for their assistance,” he said.
