Accident caused after tire flies off vehicle

AMHERST TWP. — Only minutes after Rick Boone got his tires rotated at Ed Mullinax Ford in Amherst, he was driving down state Route 113 when one of those tires flew from his car and hit an oncoming car, sending the woman in the oncoming car to the hospital.

“I was worried about her because she had nowhere to go,” Boone said.

The incident occurred just before 6 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of state Routes 58 and 113 in Amherst Township when Boone was driving his truck eastbound on 113. Boone said that his front left tire suddenly came off of his truck, hitting an oncoming car and denting it.

The woman in the oncoming car was in her mid 50s, said Trooper Justin Lister of the Ohio Highway Patrol. She was sent to EMH Amherst Hospital for chest abrasions from her seatbelt, Lister said.

Boone plans to take the accident up with Ed Mullinax Ford.

“It’s unacceptable,” he said.

Dennis Pritt, general manager of the company, said he plans to look into the incident to see if the tire rotation was involved.

I wonder how long Mr Pruitt is going to have to look into it… coincidence? Hardly.

and was he driving a car or a truck? (not that it matters, but the article mentions both)

Almost happened to me once back in 1977. The car was just in for a check-up and on my way to work, I kept hearing noises.
I checked all the tires and noticed the back lug nuts on the passenger side were all loose, which caused the bolt holes to become egg shaped ruining the rim.
    I changed the tire.

Just another reason to stay away from Mullinax Ford !!!

I think Mullinax will be sued out of business after all this is said and done. That place has never been the same after Mr. Mullinax left.
