Woman critically injured in car crash near airport

NEW RUSSIA TWP. — A Lorain woman was critically injured in a car crash around 3 p.m. Wednesday across the road from the Lorain County Airport, 44050 Russia Road.

Julia Binggeli, 28, of the 1000 block of West 21st Street, was hospitalized at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, according to Trooper Jeff Boris of the Ohio Highway Patrol’s Elyria post. Binggeli is believed to have been a rear passenger in a four-door, 1993 Saturn that flipped onto its roof.

However, Boris said there was disagreement between the other two occupants about who was driving the Saturn in which Boris said marijuana and prescription pill bottles were found. The other occupants, Cheryl Samples, 45, of Sullivan, and Keith White, 32, of Brook Park, were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries at Mercy Allen Hospital in Oberlin.

The Saturn was eastbound east of Oberlin Road when it drifted right off the road through two driveways and flipped into a ditch, Boris said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
