Edward A. Gutowski

GutowskiEdOBIT FLAGEdward A. Gutowski, 91, of Elyria, died at the Ohio Veterans Home, in Sandusky, Monday, September 30, 2013. Mr. Gutowki was born August 29, 1922 in Elyria and lived here all of his life.

He served as a belly gunner in the 5th Air Force, the 417th Bombardment Group, 672nd Squadron flying A20 aircraft in the Pacific during WWII and was employed at the Pfaudler Company as a millwright for 43 1/2 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of St Jude Catholic Church, the VFW Post 1079, the United Polish Club, the American Legion Post 12, and the Elyria Senior Fellowship. He enjoyed walking, golf and watching football.

He is survived by two sons, Thomas of Omaha and Richard and Sarah (nee Swiers) Gutowski, of Blair, Nebraska; grandsons ,Josh (Jennifer) residing in Duluth, Minnesota and Matthew in California; three great grandchildren, Tobias and twins, Jacob and Justin, all of Minnesota; and many loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Merle R. (Moe) (nee Wenger) Gutowski in 1996; two brothers, Stanley and John Gutowski; sister, Jennie Severa; and his parents, Anthony and Julia (nee Kruszewski) Gutowski.

Friends will be received at the Reichlin Roberts Funeral Home, 327 Cleveland Street, Elyria, Friday, October 4, 2013 from 6 to 8 P.M. Closing prayers will be in the funeral home Saturday, October 5, 2013, at 9 A.M., followed by mass at 9:30 A.M. at St. Jude Church, 590 Poplar Street, Elyria. The Reverend Father Frank P. Kosem, Pastor, will officiate. Burial with full military honors provided by the VFW Post 1079 will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
