Hugh Irvin, 72 years of age, and a resident of Lorain, passed away Thursday, October 3, 2013, at Autumn Aegis Retirement Community, following a lengthy illness. Hugh was born August, 25, 1941 in Lanett, Alabama, and as a teen came to Lorain. He made several moves, settling in Lorain in 1985.
Hugh worked as a truck driver for 50 years, retiring from Lor Co Trucking in 2004. He also owned and operated North Coast Construction from 2001 – 2007. He loved dirt track auto racing as a younger man, as well as fishing. Hugh was known for his southern congenial ways.
Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Sharon Louise Irvin (nee Lane): his sons and their wives, Mark and Debbie Irvin of New Jersey and Vince and Linda Irvin of Cincinnati; his daughters, Valorie Caylor and her husband Mark of Dayton, and Carmen Irvin of Georgia; his step-daughters and their husbands, Donna and Jeff Schermerhorn of Maryland, Mary and Mike Arbogast of West Virginia and Janet Canter of Canton; his father, Milton “Pete” Irvin of Georgia; his brothers Lee and his wife, Deloris of Virginia, Joe Irvin of Georgia, and Melvin and his wife, Judy of Georgia; his sister, Angie and her husband, Burl Meeks of Georgia; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Hugh was preceded in death by his first wife, Wanda in 1972; his second wife, Joan Irvin in 1977; and his mother, Aggie Irvin (nee Walker).
Friends may call Monday, October 7, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M., at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 8, 2013, 11 A.M., at Hempel Funeral Home. The Reverend Richard Henry, Pastor of Amherst Church of the Nazarene will officiate. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.
