Gladys I. Giese, 86, of Grafton Township, passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2013 in her home, following a sudden illness. She was born June 21, 1927 in Eaton Township and had lived her entire life in the local area.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Valley City. A 1945 graduate of Belden High School, she retired from Production Credit Association in Oberlin in 1985 and worked at Willoway Nurseries in Avon for five years following her retirement. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Pijor of Grafton Township; sons, Mitch Giese of Murrieta, California and Tom Giese of Grafton Township. Survivors also include grandchildren, Jason Giese, Jodi Giese, Amanda Giese, Amy Giese, Angela Giese, Andrea Hennen, Victoria Becker, Christopher Becker; and great grandchildren, Jayne Giese, Marissa Marquez-Giese, Steven Marquez-Giese and Jack Hennen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Giese in 2004; brothers, Gerson, Walter, Herbert; and by her parents, Albert and Tillie Redman.
Friends may call in the Blackburn-Duke Funeral Home, 1021 Main St., Grafton on Monday, October 7, 2013 from 5 to 8 P.M. Friends may also call on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 from 10 A.M. until funeral service at 11 A.M. in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1377 Lester Rd. (intersection of Lester Rd. and Rt. 303), Valley City. The Rev. John Urvan will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
