Barbara Marie Sladick-Gooden (nee Wirth), 79, of Brook Park, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2013, at Seasons of Life Hospice, following a five year battle with cancer. She was born May 1, 1934 in Elyria.
Barbara was raised in Elyria. She was employed for 15 years as a laborer at Phoenix Dye Works in Cleveland. She enjoyed doing needlepoint, cross-stitch, and working crossword puzzles.
Mrs. Sladick-Gooden is survived by her son, Russell J. Gooden (Connie) of Cleveland; daughter, Cheryl Elswick (George) of Madison; daughter-in-law, Arietta Gooden; grandchildren, Joshua, Jeremiah, Dominique, Felicia, George, Corryn, and Ricky; great grandchildren, Jacob and Julia; and sisters, Phyllis Thompson of Texas, Vivian Smith of Kentucky, and Kathleen Wieser of Elyria.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Eugene Gooden; second husband, Richard Roy Sladick; parents, Harry Rudolf and Gladys (nee Ruby) Wirth; youngest son, Richard Alan Gooden; and sister, Joyce Helsell.
Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M., Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at Busch Funeral Home, 114 Second Street, Elyria. Funeral service will be 11 A.M., Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Nesbett Cemetery, Grafton Township.
