A Kentucky fugitive was arrested Monday in Amherst after being spotted Sunday night in a stolen vehicle.
At 9:26 p.m. Sunday, Police Officer Dan Marsico spotted a 1999 Pontiac Firebird that was reported stolen from West Virginia. The driver fled when Marsico tried to pull the vehicle over, according to police Sgt. Richard Ellis. After a pursuit between East River Road and Prospect Street, the suspects abandoned the vehicle and ran off.
One of the suspects was believed to be Earl Thomas Newhouse III, 30, who was wanted on a warrant from the Kentucky Parole Board.
Police received a tip Monday that Newhouse was at the Motel 6 in Amherst, according to Elyria Police Capt. Chris Costantino.
Officers went to the motel and saw a man basically matching the Newhouse’s description, Costantino said. Newhouse ran, and was arrested after a brief foot chase.
Newhouse was charged with receiving stolen property and obstructing official business.
A male and a female who were at the hotel also ran and remain at-large, Costantino said.
