Man stabbed at Bell Avenue apartment complex

ELYRIA — A man was stabbed at about 10:55 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of the Westfield Garden Apartments, 525 Bell Ave.

Police Lt. Jason Cunningham said he didn’t have the identity of the man, his condition or a motive for the stabbing. The assailant remained at large early this morning.

Westfield Gardens is off state Route 57 next to a Speedway gas station.

Neighbor Aaron Bennett, who lives above the area of the parking lot where the stabbing occurred, said he heard a woman screaming for someone to call 911. He said he looked out his window and saw a woman standing next to a silver Toyota Corolla. He said he could see a pool of blood next to the car.

At 11:25 p.m., police led two young girls from the back seats of the four-door Corolla. The elementary school-aged girls were given to two adult women. One of the women, who didn’t identify herself, said one of the girls is the daughter of the victim.

A pool of blood was near the car’s passenger side.
