Thomas Andrew Ramey, Sr., 87, of Lorain, passed away Saturday, October 12, 2013, at the Ames Family Hospice House, under the care of Western Reserve Hospice, following a brief illness. Thomas was born April 22, 1926 in Regina, Kentucky.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from May 1, 1944 through May 20, 1946. Thomas was the owner and operator of the Shell Service Station on Pearl Ave. in Lorain until his retirement. He enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family. He was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lorain.
Thomas is survived by his children, Tom (Ora) Ramey, Vickie Plas, Susan (John) Atkins and Joseph Ramey; grandchildren, Terri Ramey, Mike Simpson, Michelle Morland and Sawyer Atkins; great-grandchildren, Izabella, David, Tyler, Kyle, Illyanna, Isobel and Brendon
He was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Ella Ramey in April of 2013; parents, Link and Tori Ramey; sisters, Kattie, Dixie and Evelynn; and brother, Jack.
The family will receive friends Thursday, October 17, 2013, from 3 to 7 P.M., at Wyers Funeral Chapel, 2900 North Ridge Rd., Sheffield Township. Funeral Services will be Friday, October 18, 2013, 11 A.M., at the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4501 Clinton Ave. Lorain. Reverend Laurie A. Miller, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Garden in Avon. Full military honors will be conducted by the Louis Paul Proy DAV Chapter 20 of Lorain.
