He was a graduate of Memphis Tech High School in 1942 and served with the United States Army during WWII. He was employed as an electrician with Ford Motor, Lorain Plant for 26 years, retiring in 1987. Mr. Magel enjoyed being a ham radio operator.
He is survived by one son, Robert H. Magel, Jr. of Danville, California; one grandson, Robert H. Magel III of California; and one sister, Jean Chapman of California.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Mildred R. Magel (nee Nowjokas) in 2006; two brothers, Walter and Wilber Magel; and his parents, Walter F. and Sara (nee Cromie) Magel.
Friends will be received at the Reichlin Roberts Funeral Home, 327 Cleveland Street, Elyria, Saturday, October 19, 2013 from 2:30 P.M. until the time of a service at 3:30 P.M. Beth McKee, Chaplain of the Wesleyan Village, will officiate. Burial, with full military honors provided by the VFW Post 1079, will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Cleveland.
