Walter A. Patterson, 88, of Columbia Station, formerly of Eaton Township (Grafton), passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, October 18, 2013. He was born January 23, 1925 in London, West Virginia. Mr. Patterson had been a resident of Lorain County since 1966.
He was a veteran and served in the Army Air-Corp from 1943-1945. Mr. Patterson was employed as an independent truck driver for 20 years and retired in 1991. Prior to that, he worked as a diesel mechanic at the White Motor Company in Cleveland. He was a member of Midview Baptist Church in Grafton and of the Disabled American Veterans.
He enjoyed golfing, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren and family.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Phyllis (nee May); two daughters, Shirley Rogers (Scott) of Grafton and Brenda Mabe (Chris) of Columbia Station; two sons, Michael of Indianapolis, Indiana and Mark (Anne) of Grafton; 13 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and two sisters, Wanda Thompson of Oak Hill, West Virgina and Gwen Rhea of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter W. and Maude M. (nee Diggs) Patterson; and by two brothers, Danny “Roy” and Robert Patterson.
The family will receive friends on Monday, October 21, 2013 from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Liston Funeral Home, 36403 Center Ridge Road (at Stoney Ridge Rd.), North Ridgeville. Private service will be held Tuesday, October 22, 2013 with Pastor Tim Mayo from Midview Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Butternut Ridge Cemetery in Eaton Township.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to either Midview Baptist Church or to Crossroads Hospice.
