Edmund F. Smith, 77, of North Ridgeville, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home, Saturday, October 19, 2013. He was born March 23, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan and has been a resident of North Ridgeville for the past 47 years. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean Conflict, and worked as an Electronics Technician at N.A.S.A., retiring in 1993. Edmund was very active as an umpire in the Lorain County area, umping games for the North Ridgeville Little League for many years. He was also the Secretary Treasurer for the Elyria Area Umpires Association and Assigning Secretary for the Ohio High School Athletic Association. He acted as Past President of the North Ridgeville Band Boosters, was an Adult Boy Scout Leader, and a member of American Legion Post 717, North Ridgeville. In his free time, Edmund was an Amateur Radio Operator, an avid camper, fisherman, and especially enjoyed traveling with his late wife, Carol.
He is survived by his children, Ken (Mary) Smith of Elyria, Cathy (John-deceased) Antus of Lakewood, Gary (Kathy) Smith of North Ridgeville, and Richard (Robin) Smith of Elyria; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; many nieces, and nephews.
Edmund was preceded in death by his wife, Carol in 2011; and parents, Edmond F. and Edith May (nee Nordstrom) Smith; stepfather, Byron Payne.
Funeral Service will be Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at 10 A.M., in the Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Rd., N. Ridgeville. Family will receive friends Tuesday, October 22, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M., at Bogner Family Funeral Home. Interment with Military Honors at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
