Kathleen Helen (McDonough) Murphy, known as “Katy” to her family and friends, 69, of Grapevine, Texas, formerly of Elyria, Ohio, died peacefully on Friday, October 18, 2013 at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, due to complications from surgery for Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus. Katy was born in Elyria to John and Mary (McGuire) McDonough on April 3, 1944.
She graduated from Elyria Catholic High School (Class of ’62) and attended Kent State University prior to starting her married life and professional career. She retired from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in 2001 where she had served in the Cleveland, Houston, and Fort Worth Field Offices.
Katy is preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary; and a younger sister, Laurie.
Katy is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Robert; their three children, Scott, Christine, and Brian; five grandchildren, Hayden, Samuel, Logan, Emily, and Mark; and her seven brothers and sisters, Molly, John, Mike, Kevin, Brian, Jerry, and Patty, affectionately known as the “McDonough Clan.”
Known for her quick wit, contagious smile, and sense of humor, even during the most difficult of times, Katy was a true lover of nature and animals. When healthy, her favorite pastimes were planting flowers, caring for her many animals, horseback riding, and vacationing with her family.
Katy’s life can be summed up by one simple phrase, “she lived, she laughed, she loved.” The world is a better place because she lived.
