A Cleveland man was arrested Tuesday after striking several vehicles in an apparent domestic violence incident, according to a news release from the Westlake Police Department.
At about 9:10 a.m., a woman called 911 to report the father of her child, identified as Christopher Hampton, 40, of Cleveland, was following her on Interstate 90 westbound from Cleveland and deliberately hitting her vehicle with his own, according to the release.
The woman pulled off the roadway once she entered Westlake, and the suspect continued westbound. Hampton allegedly exited I-90 at Crocker Road, where he struck two more vehicles before fleeing on foot near the Promenade, according to the release.
A Westlake Service Department worker who was monitoring police radio activity was able to give the Hampton’s direction of travel to dispatchers. As a precaution, nearby Bassett Elementary School, 2155 Bassett Road, was told to lock the school doors until the all-clear was given.
Rocky River, Bay Village and Avon police departments assisted in the search, which ended when an Avon officer located Hampton at the Wendy’s restaurant on the corner of Crocker and Detroit roads.
He is currently being held in the Westlake City Jail. Charges have not yet been determined.
