A Plain Dealer delivery driver was killed in a Westlake crash on Tuesday morning.

James Hutton, 46, was driving a vehicle when it crashed into a tree on Center Ridge Road, just east of Walter Road, at about 6 a.m., according to a news release from the Westlake Police Department. The crash was reported by a passing motorist.

Hutton died en route to Fairview Hospital.

Westlake police and fire departments responded. Center Ridge Road was closed until 8:40 a.m. while officials investigated the scene.

The preliminary investigation did not indicate drug or alcohol use. The release states Hutton may have fallen asleep or suffered a medical emergency while on his delivery route.
