She graduated from Ashtabula High School in 1947. She met her future husband, Roger L’Hommedieu, working summers at Geneva on the Lake and they married in 1950. After high school, she was supported her family with employment as a secretary in Ann Arbor while her husband attended the College of Pharmacy at the University of Michigan. After his graduation, she began working with him as the store manager, bookkeeper and buyer for the independent pharmacies they owned in Lorain and Avon. She retired in 1995 when they sold their last pharmacy, L’Hommedieu’s Chemist Shop in Avon. They had worked side by side for 42 years. Vi was happily married to Roger for 46 years and during that time, in addition to running their own business, she enjoyed gardening, traveling the world and entertaining family and friends at their home in Grafton. She was a proud grandmother of five and always reached out to make a new friend or help an old one when they needed it. Her sense of humor and engaging personality made her welcome at Laurel Lake when she moved there in 2008.
Vi was preceded in death by her loving husband, Roger in 1996; and sister, Lucille Hunt.
She is survived by her sons, Roger Jr. of Hudson, Michael of Savannah; and grandchildren, Jonathan L’Hommedieu, Timothy L’Hommedieu, Lauren L’Hommedieu, Daniel L’Hommedieu and Nicholas L’Hommedieu.
A private burial service was held. A reception celebrating of her life will be held at the Laurel Lake Community Room, 200 Laurel Lake Drive, Hudson, from 2 to 4 P.M., Saturday, October 26, 2013.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association www.Alz.org
