Boy, 5, killed in hit-and-run in Cleveland

CLEVELAND — Cleveland police are searching for the driver who drove off after striking and killing a 5-year-old boy walking to school before dawn.

The victim, Israel Thornton, was taken from Friday’s accident to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he died. His identity was released by the county medical examiner.

The motorist left the scene just north of the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo driving a vehicle believed to be a light-colored SUV or van. The license plate was not known.

Police think the vehicle may have damage to the grill or below. Investigators are asking that any eyewitnesses come forward.

Who would send their 5 yr old to walk by himself in Cleveland at dawn? Another tragedy that could have been avoided…

WHere does it say he was walking alone?
The tragedy could be avoided by careless drivers watching for pedestrians.

Actually it was reported that he was walking with a cousin.
