Georgetta D. McGhee, 63, of Henrietta Township, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2013 at the Cleveland Clinic, following a brief illness. She was born February 17, 1950 in Cleveland. Georgetta was raised in Bedford Heights and made her home in Amherst and Wakeman areas since 1967.
Along with her husband, they owned and operated Karaoke Delight and DJ II. She worked as a bookkeeper and collection agent for various medical collection companies, and also for the credit union at Nordson Corporation and United Consumer Finance. Georgetta attended Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lorain. She was a member of the American Legion Post #118, Ladies Auxiliary in Amherst. Georgetta loved traveling to Florida with her family. Most of all she loved caring for her cats, Charlie, Tigger and Bootsie.
Survivors include her husband of 16 years, James R. Simon; her son and his wife Tom and Stacey Hardwick of Amherst; her sister, Shirley (Jack) McMeechan of Chardon; her brothers, Edward McGhee of Amherst and Ronald (Lisa) McGhee of North Ridgeville; nine nieces and nephews and eight great nieces and nephews; as well as many cherished extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Betty “BJ” Jane McGhee; and her parents, Edward Dowell and Margaret “Goldie” McGhee (nee Hill).
Friends may call Sunday, October 27, 2013 from 4 to 8 P.M. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 28, 2013 at 11 A.M. at the funeral home. The Rev. Laurie Miller, Pastor of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church of Lorain will officiate. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
