OBIT FLAGCareyNoelCareyNoel_2Noel A. Carey, 74, of Elyria, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2013 under the care of New Life Hospice. He was born in Bunkie, Louisiana on December 25, 1938.

Noel proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves for eight years. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his children, Deborah Whitfield of Elyria, Alice (Warren) Colbert of Elyria, Noel A. Carey, Jr. of Elyria, Amanda (Jerome) Phillips of Elyria, Sharon (Larry) McGhee of Elyria, Sanrae (Chuka) Onyeweke of Avon, Joyce Carey of Lorain, Marcel “Peaches” West of Columbus and Marie West of Elyria; brother, Donald Carey; sister, Johine Jones; and 18 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild; also his life partner, Mary Ann West.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Jean Carey; and parents, Antwine and Marie (nee Clayton) Carey.

The family will receive friends Monday, October 28, 2013 from 4 to 6 P.M. at Wyers Funeral Chapel, 2900 North Ridge Rd. and from 11 A.M. until time of the service at 12 Noon, Tuesday, October 29, 2013. The Reverend Dixie Taylor Smith, Associate Pastor of Jones Chapel AME, will officiate. Interment will follow in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria. Military honors will be conducted by the DAV Chapter 20 of Lorain.
