Gerald “Jerry” Stwan, 75, of Vermilion, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 26, 2013 at his residence. Jerry was born April 28, 1938 in Cleveland. He had been a Vermilion resident for the past 65 years.
Jerry was an electrician with I.B.E.W. Local 38 in Cleveland for 43 years. He also served with the Vermilion Fire Department beginning January 1, 1957 and retiring as Assistant Fire Chief in 2004. For the past nine years Jerry continued to serve as the department Chaplain.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Vermilion Fish & Game Club and the Walleye Central Fishing Club. Jerry was an avid fisherman and hunter.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Doris (nee Boone); daughter, Patty Stwan of Vermilion; grandchildren, Heather Pfieffer, Jill Burns, Erica Stwan, Tammy Stwan, Jennifer Fussell and Richard Geary; four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Jeff and Tim Stwan; parents, Adelbert and Dorothy (Hoste) Stwan; and brothers, Allen and Adelbert “Skip” Stwan.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 30, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South St.,Vermilion, where Vermilion Fire Department services will be conducted at 7:30 P.M. Prayers will be said at the funeral home Thursday, October 31, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 A.M. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange St., Vermilion. The Reverend Fr. Ron Brickner will officiate.
