ELYRIA — A Grafton man was sentenced Friday to one year in prison for a June 2012 crash that seriously injured two people.
Christopher Gerhart, 23, had a blood-alcohol level of 0.189, above the legal limit of 0.08, when he was tested following the crash, which took place shortly before 7 a.m. on June 10, 2012, on state Route 57.
Police said Gerhart was heading south in a Ford F-150 when he struck the rear of a Hyundai Santa Fe driven by Thomas Martin, who had stopped at East Broad Street.
The force of the crash sent the Sante Fe into a Jeep Patriot driven by Aaron Sherban and the impact forced the Jeep into another lane where it struck a motorcycle ridden by Jeremy Harsa.
Martin’s back was broken, and Harsa suffered a broken leg.
At the time of the crash, Gerhart’s face was covered in drawings, which police said his friends had drawn on him with marker the night before.
