ELYRIA — The man who robbed the Lorain National Bank branch on Middle Avenue in Elyria in August was sentenced Tuesday to three years in prison.
The sentence was handed down to James Simko II, 23, immediately after he pleaded guilty to charges of robbery and obstructing official business for the Aug. 8 robbery.
Elyria police have said that Simko entered the bank and passed the teller a note demanding money. He wasn’t armed and didn’t make any threats.
The bank robbery took place at roughly the same time that Elyria police were dealing with a separate unrelated robbery at the Taco Bell on West Avenue.
Joseph Bowles, 40, has pleaded guilty to robbery and tampering with evidence in that case, in which he reportedly grabbed a customer and stole his wallet before running away. Bowles was arrested a few minutes later.
