Richard W. Rickel, 64 of Sheffield Lake and formerly of Elyria, passed away Monday, October 28, 2013 after a brief illness. He was born October 24, 1949 in Oberlin and was a 1967 graduate of Elyria High School.
Mr. Rickel served in the Air Force as a Staff Sergeant stationed at S.A.C., N.O.R.A.D. and Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam. He was employed as an Instrument Control Technician with Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company in Avon Lake. Richard was a 50 year HAM Radio operator, call sign WA8OEY and a member of the American Radio Relay League; and a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Richard is survived by his wife of 39 years, Pamela (nee Jackson); mother, Frances M. (nee Perkins); children, Heather Beagle (Matthew) of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania and Sean Rickel of Sheffield Lake (fiancee Rachel); grandchildren, Arrick, Alexander and honorary granddaughter, Anna; and brother, Robert Rickel (Anne) of Palm Harbor, Florida.
He was preceded in death by father, Ralph D.; and sister, Michelle M. Clutter.
Friends may call at Hope Christian Church, 32575 Detroit Road, Avon, from 5 to 9 P.M., Thursday, October 31, 2013 and from 10 A.M. until time of services at 11 A.M., Friday, November 1, 2013. Deacon Robert Dybo, cousin of Mr. Rickel, will officiate. Interment will follow Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst, where Jason Clutter, nephew of Mr. Rickel, will officiate and military honors will be observed.
