Vada N. Rogers-Maruschak

Vada N. Rogers-Maruschak (nee Bremke), 86, of Wakeman, passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at EMH Healthcare, Elyria. She was born in Elyria. Vada was raised and had lived most of her life in the Grafton and Oberlin area, graduating from Oberlin in the class of 1945. She made her home in Wakeman for the last 13 years.

Vada was employed in manufacturing at Gillford Industries in Oberlin for many years. She was also previously employed at Bendix and the Oberlin College. Vada was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Oberlin. She was a leader with the Oberlin Clover Girls 4-H for 10 years. Vada was also a member of the Plum Creek Garden Club and the Oberlin Seniors Club. She was a woman who enjoyed keeping busy with her hands doing crocheting for family and friends. Beyond the hobbies she enjoyed where the moments that she was most passionate about gardening and raising flowers that brightened her home and spending time surrounded by her family sharing stories and giving her many memories that she treasured.

Survivors include her daughters and their husbands, Sande and Rick Meilander of Riverview, Michigan, Joan and Dan Bishop of Mansfield, Nancy and Al Hoch of Wakeman, where Vada made her home, Karen Saunders and Alan Worchester of Elyria, Eva and George Horning of LaGrange; 14 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; her family dog, “Buzz”; and her brothers, Myron Bremke of Elyria and Edward “Bill” Bremke of Amherst.

She was preceded in death by her first husband of 39 years, Harold E. Rogers on June 12, 1989; her second husband, Steve Maruschak on September 9, 2000; her parents, Edward and Frieda Bremke (nee Richert); and great grandson Matthew D. Bishop on March 3, 2003.

Friends may call Thursday, October 31, 2013 from 5 to 9 P.M. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 1, 2013 at 10 A.M. at Grace Lutheran Church, 310 West Lorain, Oberlin. The Rev. Joshua Moldenhauer, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
