Alice A. Benko (nee Linsky), 92, of Elyria, has passed away peacefully in her home following a brief illness, on Friday, November 1, 2013 under the care of her son, Philip and New Life Hospice. Alice was born March 3, 1921 in Elyria and was a lifelong Elyria resident.
A member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Elyria, she was also the former owner of the Flower Farm where she enjoyed tending to her flowers and gardening. She was a 1938 graduate of Elyria High School, and recently attended the 1965 Elyria High School reunion where she was honored as the oldest member attending. Alice enjoyed collecting antiques, visiting flea markets and listening to Cleveland Indians baseball games.
Survivors include hers sons, Timothy Benko, Philip Benko, with whom she made her home, Larry Benko and James Benko, all of Elyria; and grandson, Steve Benko of Elyria.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Benko in 1996; parents, Frank and Katherine (nee Oseka) Benko; sister, Blanche Souhark; and brothers, Edward and Henry Linsky.
The family will receive friends Monday, November 4, 2013 from 4 to 6 P.M. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. Closing prayers will be Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at 9:30 A.M. in the funeral home followed by at 10 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Church, 320 Middle Ave., Elyria. The Rev. Fr. Charles Diedrick, Pastor, will be the Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria.
