Columbia already had a first-team All-Ohio player leading it into tonight’s playoff game against Chippewa.
Now they have a Golden Helmet winner, too.
And it’s the same player.
Jay Banyasz was named the Golden Helmet winner Thursday as the top senior football player in Lorain County.
Banyasz, who was named a first-team All-Ohio defensive back last season, has dazzled at quarterback as well this season, completing 120 of 174 passes for 2,029 yards and 28 touchdowns without an interception. He also has 10 rushing touchdowns.
The 6-foot-3, 180-pounder is the second Raider to win the award, joining running back Dustin Intihar (2002).
The Raiders (10-0), who finished third in the state poll, host Chippewa tonight in a Division V game at 7 p.m.
