Avon will face a backup quarterback in Friday’s Division II, Region 4 semifinal in Huron.
The Bowling Green Sentinel-Tribune reported late Monday that Gus Dimmerling, Perrysburg’s standout junior quarterback, will miss the remainder of the season with two broken ribs suffered in Friday’s 28-21 win over Akron Ellet, the Yellow Jackets’ first playoff win in school history.
Dimmerling ran for 129 yards and two touchdowns and threw for 229 and another touchdown in the victory. For the season, he’s thrown for 1,688 yards and 14 touchdowns, and ran for 1,207 yards and 15 scores for Perrysburg (9-2).
Backup Trevor Hafner will start in his place. Hafner threw for 211 yards and three scores, and logged 31 yards on the ground in limited duty.
Kregel tells me that Trevor Hafner, a sophomore, will start in place of Dimmerling on Friday. His text to me: ‘He can sling it!’
